Mother’s Day Terrariums

Since I’ve fallen in love with gardening, I’ve started making customized containers as gifts. For Mother’s Day, I put together the pieces for little air plant terrariums and shipped them off to Pennsylvania. I wanted something low maintenance, but unique for my mom. I found inexpensive hanging globes at Pottery Barn’s after Christmas sale last year and bought two boxes. I got some neutral colored rocks, though I pondered colored sand, and just added air plants that I picked up at the SF Flower and Garden Show. It was creative, but super easy to put together. Here is a pic my mom sent. They’re sitting on the windowsill but can just as easily hang from the curtain rod.

Edit: after I posted this, I discovered another blog with a similar project, only theirs is an entire chandelier. You should definitely check theirs out. Additionally, the globes are also available at CB2.

tea towel curtains by tikoliI wasn’t brave enough to try and deal with the side effects (rust etc) of planting in tea tins. But I did finally put up cute tea towel curtains in my kitchen. And while that’s not entirely gardening related, I wanted to share them anyway, since they do compliment my windowsill garden. For the curious, the tea towels are Mummy2 by Tikoli.

Also, from left to right are a sun jar, two cow pots with lavender seedlings, a prayer plant, a venus flytrap, rosemary, chives, and aloe. I also usually grow basil inside, but I haven’t gotten around to it this season.
